The Steps Scholarship Foundation is a non-profit organization that launched on November 2007. Founded and currently managed by Sofia Zobel-Elizalde, the foundation aims to give assistance to young gifted Filipino dancers who want to have serious dance training in ballet, modern dance, or jazz dance in the hopes of making dance a future profession.

Steps offers different types of scholarships based on the needs of each individual. The scholarships range from a half scholarship, which gives partial assistance, to a full scholarship, which also provides financial aid for transportation expenses and dance accessories. Through the Scholarship Foundation, many young students in Steps have successfully been accepted into professional dance companies locally and internationally.

Steps Dance Studio holds auditions for scholarships annually during its Summer Dance Workshop. In very special cases if a child shows great promise, they may be invited to join the scholarship program by Steps director Sofia Zobel-Elizalde.

Other Benefits received by Steps scholars
• Scholars receive top quality training in classical ballet, modern dance, and jazz dance. Scholars are expected to become part of the Steps Dance Project, Steps’ in-house organization that gives performances in special external projects.
• The foundation subsidizes the fees needed to take the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) exams for students receiving the full scholarship. RAD is an international organization that provides examination certificates in classical ballet training.
• The foundation sponsors scholars that join local and international dance competitions.
• Recently, it has created a new award that is given to deserving scholars to avail of an Intensive Summer dance program abroad. This year, the Steps Scholarship Foundation fully subsidized three students and a teacher in attending summer dance programs in prestigious dance schools in England.

CENTEX Scholarship Program

In partnership with Ayala Foundation’s Center of Excellence in Public Elementary Education (CENTEX), Steps provides a select number of CENTEX students a well-rounded dance education. Students with the right physique and body proportion, as well as the capacity to take dance training to a higher level, are included in the program.

STEPS currently supports 26 children from CENTEX. The scholarship includes their transportation to their Dance classes all year round, full uniforms, snacks and Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) examination fees.
